hindsight is a wonderful thing
managers base decisions on the present
the best guide to the future is the past
but things happen that no-one could anticipate
gd does the best for the brummies that he can
i hope he stays for a long time

Personally I think its crazy to talk about a change in team manager. Graham Drury in my opinion has done a great job and is someone who I respect alot, sure hes made mistakes but who hasnt look at Rosco and his stupid comments on Sky the other week aswell as his behaviour at Belle Vue. I agree with what he said but to broadcast that to the nation on Sky was just idiotic. Team Managers make mistakes but With Graham I respect him because hes made mistakes and admitted later on that he made a mistake. Hes not afraid to voice his opinion so for him to admit to an error of judgment gets my respect.

The incident Im talking about is when James Birkinshaw was axed during the 2008 season, it was obviously a tough decision to make and a wrong one as hes wasnt doing to bad and was very much a fans favourite. There was a lot of flak towards to that on here and the "Bring Back Birko" banners were out in force but Graham stuck to his guns. In the end he admitted he made a mistake and reinstated Birko later in the season, from that point on Graham earned my respect as a fan for his honesty. Theres NOBODY else I want as Team Manager, it would be a sad day for the club if he every went. People may disagree with me but I feel strongly about it.

I accept it hasn been a good week for the club but calling for endless change I dont think helps. Everyone is frustrated, I myself probably went overboard by calling the team " gutless" after Wednesday and I accept I was wrong in saying that. The Club went to alot of trouble of promoting the final and indeed attracting new sponsors so for the riders to underperform at Newcastle (and at Perry barr imo) I think annoyed alot of people. Despite a 22 point margin there was still a huge crowd on Wednesday and it shows how passionate we are. We are a big Premier League Club, despite being back for only 4 years certaintly in terms of Sponsorship. Its just we are lacking on track success and thats why we I so hope we get full planning so we can put that right.

Well done to everyone involved with the club, I cant praise enough the hardwork that people have gone to to promote the Brummies.

NO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS GUYS AND GALS PLEASE

You won't want to read this then

Firstly GD is a really nice bloke, good with the media and properly a damn good promoter but as team manger he’s a loser, end off. It doesn’t matter if its injuries, bad refereeing, rule changes or weather conditions, some fans always seem to find an excuse to support the guy.

Birmingham speedway is the biggest name in the premier league and I know we have no divine right to win anything but to be honest the way we have performed under Drury’s management in cup finals has been nothing short of a kick in the teeth to Birmingham supporters.  And believe me this is getting to be as big a point in Birmingham future as the planning application, because without a sizable support speedway at Perry Barr will become unsustainable. (Unless we can find our own stadium to race at)

Personal I didn’t give toss about winning things or who the manger is or the promoter for that matter. I’m happy to stand in the middle of a farmers field watching 7 riders riding pizza deliver scooters around as long they wear the red B, well that’s what I believed back in 2006.

Now unfortunately after 3 and half seasons back, right now I’ve found better things to do with the time on a Wednesday evening.    (But I could always be proven wrong) Roll Eyes

But Arnold, how can Graham be to blame, he doesn't ride the bikes for them?

But he does sign the riders in the first place, every season since we came back 5 to 6 good riders and one or two no hopers.

Arnold I take your point with GD, but that aside you say that you are happy to watch 7 scooters as long as they have a Red B on the chest, so why stop going Wednesday's  to PB?

Surely that is not the answer, if we all did that then Planning or not Speedway would be finished at PB, Get yourself back down there our home form is excellent this season.

Yes we were poor in the PT & previous Finals but they have now gone, I am sure that the Promotion will review the situation in the Winter.

We all want a succesfull future for the Brummies but to achieve that we need to support the club & stick together even when we lose, You win together & lose together.

C'mon Arnold see you on Weds eh..........

Every team virtually has a no hoper in there team due to the averages but the team of 2008 was a decent team on paper till injuries took over and I still believe we would have won somthing that year, and the team that was assembled this year was well planned, and Jake was only the real unknown in the team too which again I dont recall anyone on this forum whingeing about the team that was assembled this year till we lost CK and AS....

I agree 2008, was going to be our best season, it looked good this season as well, Jake was a mistake, but so what we are still one of the top teams, still second and will still be second after wednesday if we get the result we want, a win. We just have to keep winning or not lose by less than six, to keep the dram alive, it will be a hard slog, but we can still do it.
If we get PP in a few weeks time, IMO the manager situation will be reviewed in the winter anyway.

If you think about it we are currently 2 nd in the PL, reached the PT Final (lost I know) and have the KOC Semi-Final to contest, what team would change a Manager at this point?

Come the end of the season should we be still be Trophy-less, then maybe all parties will consider the Team Manager's position.

Admit Jake was a mistake but it was rectified as the way then started we could afford to carry Jake...I think that if Patch does decide to carry on with Birmingham in the future if planning is resolved, there will be changes to the management I always said that Phil Morris would make a good team manager but needs to be groomed in working with shewd wiley old foxes like Pratty Adams Ian Thomas and GD..

I must admit I find this thread incredible. People are glibly talking about throwing someone out of his job. And what for? For putting together a good, no a great team, and then having that team ruined by injury and BSPA decisions.

GD has outperformed the vast majority of the league now for four years, we are in second place in the league, we are in the semi final of the KOC and we have just contested our 4th final. And we want to get rid of him? My god I am so glad that you lot arent my boss.

I think GD hasnt done a bad job since  has assmbled pretty useful sides since the start whom he has admitted mistakes have been made in the past, wether he goes or stays is up to himself and his employers, I actually wouldnt mind if he stays

Quite right.  The great success of the team during the PT made some people think that we had some sort of divine right to win everything, so now we have lost the final (note: the FINAL) some people are having hysterics.
When we won at Kings Lynn a couple of years ago, I had a good laugh at the way the KL fans were screaming on the BSF.  Now some of us are doing exactly the same thing
